INFLUENCE OF CLIMATE CHANGE ON COFFEE PRODUCTION IN LAMJUNG

A field survey was conducted in purposively selected 8 coffee growing VDCs of Lamjung district. 55 coffee Farmers were selected from the purposively selected 8 VDCs for the primary data collection about the farmer perception in climate change in current year compare to last 10 years and problems in coffee farming. Meteorological data of the last 24 years of the nearby station was collected from the department of meteorology and hydrology to analyses the trend of temperature and precipitation during the coffee fruiting and coffee flowering season. The household survey showed that farmers are experiencing the rise in temperature and erratic rainfall in recent years compare to last 24 years. The coffee orchards have been destroyed due to the coffee stem borer. The problem has worsened due to the rise in temperature and erratic rainfall. The meteorological data showed the increase in maximum temperature, erratic and less rainfall during the coffee flowering and fruiting season. The coffee productivity in districts is also reducing. So the climate change may be one of the factors influencing the coffee production in Lamjung.
