Climate change is a completely new challenge to all ecosystems, economies, and communities in the world. Moreover, with heightened intensity, adaptation and climate resilience have come to the forefront in the present sustainable development framework. This article discusses the interlinked dimensions of climate adaptation and brings into focus the importance of acting in advance to reduce vulnerabilities and build the capacity of systems to resist and recover from climate change-induced disruptions. Synthesizing current research and case studies, the article identifies best practices and illustrates pathways to build resilience in different contexts. It emphasizes that climate adaptation needs to be integrated into every sector, equitably, and collaboratively, with a forward-looking agenda for securing the future of forthcoming generations. Bangladesh is already suffering from the dire impacts of climate change. The rise in sea levels threatens to inundate the coastal areas, dislocating millions and further salination arable land. Increased frequency and intensity of tropical cyclones, coupled with storm surges, destroy infrastructure and agriculture. Erratic monsoons and unprecedented droughts disrupt water availability and food security. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has identified Bangladesh as one of the most vulnerable countries, with climate impacts affecting marginalized and low-income communities more than others.
